If you have a wi-fi router at home - just go to Network Settings in PS3 menu, then follow instructions.
If you have a wired connection - you'll need an Ethernet cable (RJ-45) to plug it into PS3 and your modem/router. Go to Network Settings in PS3 menu, then follow instructions.
To hook up your PC and PS3 together - you need a router (wi-fi or wired). Download and install to your PC program TVersity ( TVersity - Home ), WMP 11 and the latest WinAmp work too. Than enable Media Server function on your PC and PS3 - follow the instructions.

You plug the CAT 5e cable from the PS3 to the modem. Then you go to the XMB and go all the way to the left and create a user. Then you go all the way to the right and click sign up for a PSN account and do so.
if you have a wireless internet then all you have to do is go on your ps3 and click look for networks find your network type you password and the rest is pretty straight forward.
