no browsing

A few days ago for some reason my computer stopped searching no matter what browser I use. It lets me type in other sites from the tool bar, but will not browse away from the home page now. I was told that the ie8 installation may have been bad so i,d need to go back to ie7. But I cant get all of ie8 out now and ie7 will not install. Im stuck now and dont know which way to turn.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove.

Note If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative steps for Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003.
  5. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
i Don`t use 8 i use 6. and really i don`t use internet explorer i use firefox, its alot faster.

I know almost nothing about computers but I had to remove and install IE8 four times to finally get it to work. All I really do on the computer is read the posts from this site and sometimes look things up and read my emails. So I am really lucky to keep using this computer without any problems.
