I had the same problem on my laptop with vista. i allowed automatic updates and when ie 8 updated the f****n thing froze up. I eventually did a complete reinstall.

What I found to work best is reload the software for the dvd burner if u have it. I think its usually the drivers that get messed up....and if you try and reinstall drivers by going thru that little phase of boxes (windows), it usually doesn't work because they're corrupt too. As you said it'll find it on restart but it still won't work. highly unlikely its a bad burner unless it's really old.

Ya i Don`t care for 6, 7 or 8. i use firefox, its alot quicker than internet explorer.
