For a few months now (since the death of n2), I've been witnessing a transition on these forums from helpful posts to, well, attacking, unnecessary, and hijacking posts. This is your only warning that this action will no longer be tolerated, and actions will be taken because of this in the (very) near future.

N2news is all about helping people out, not about attacking individuals, derailing threads, hijacking them, or anything like that. While, understandably, some may be frustrated that you can't see TV as you want right now, this is no excuse for this kind of action, and the forum rules still apply!

A (quick) walkthrough on proper posting etiquette since it seems to be necessary:
  1. If your post is not on topic, don't post it.
    How do you determine if the post is on topic? Ask yourself this very simple question:
    Quote:
    Does my post answer what the original poster asked, or is my post relevant to the FIRST post of the thread?
  2. If your post is going to divert discussion from the original post of the thread, don't post it.
  3. If your post is just a "fluff" post (ie: it contains no real content), don't post it.

From this point onward, any post that is deemed by moderators to meet any of those criteria will be given an 'infraction'. Get enough 'infraction points' and you will be given a temporary pass to the "readers only" group, where you will be able to be able to contemplate your actions with the ability to read threads and download attachments only.

While I do realize this may be upsetting and frustrating to some, a good number of individuals are ruining what is a great site by hijacking and trolling in threads, which hasn't been acceptable since I came in over a year ago. If you DO see something like this, please, point it out to us by clicking on the report post icon () and we will take action if necessary.

Feel free to ask any relevant questions in this thread.
Please do not PM me directly for support, I know nothing about receivers, I'm merely the local VB guru..

Yes, you're right, it sucks that we have to take such drastic action. I hate being seen as a "heavy handed" guy, I love being seen as the nice guy, but constant warnings are being ignored, playing nice isn't getting us anywhere, it's time to start taking action.

This has been going on for a few months now, and the only way for it to stop is to effectively take action apparently. It's sad that action has to be taken, that people have to be treated like children, but, realistically I see no other option.

Or is it mainly if the thread starter makes a complaint?

Also I think this is a great site with a great deal of knowledgeable people willing to help with whatever questions anyone might have and I support the crackdown and think that inlight of the blackout the admins and mods are doing a good job.

This is something that is going to vary on the individual. It can range from 14 days to 2 years, all depending on how many 'infraction points' they accrue.
BTW, your posts were merged, really not necessary to have two posts for that . I like the idea of a guard for the group, but I think once people get that we're serious, they'll actually start acting like it.

The above suggestions (mine) are only guidelines, examples. In your example, no, this is not acceptable.

The point of this 'crackdown' is to ensure that threads get placed in proper sections, and that they don't get hijacked, as well as keeping the 'trolls' out of them (you know who you are ). This doesn't promote community, which is what n2news is, above anything else..

I have tried, in the past, to suggest this sort of thing because I personally can't stand all the bashing and general bad mouthing that has gone on since N3. No one wanted to listen, most responses were, "gee, I get a kick out of all the arguing...."
This is a great site, and I'd like to see it stay that way.
Maybe now folks will think twice about what they say and the way in which they say it.
Another suggestion that I will make (again) is to make threads that are reported rumors to be closed from the start. These sort of threads just invite unpleasant discussion.
Thanks again, I hope this will help to clean up the unpleasant sort of "discussions" that have been going on as of late......
