Don't Attach FTA-STB Directly to C-Band!

This is a c&p of a few posts I seen that I thought would be very informative.

Don't forget to use DC-pass splitters when adding your FTA STB to your BUD equipment! You may damage your equipment if you don't use the proper connection method for your system.

You can use an analog C-band receiver (which can also be equipped with a black Videocipher II module) to move your BIG UGLY dish and the servo motor (which switches between horizontal and vertical polarity). The coaxial line from each LNB (C and Ku) can be split using a DC-pass 2-way splitter. Make sure that the DC Pass is sent to the Analog receiver and not the FTA receiver.

Also, a Dolby Digital sound system is recommended, because there are some great channels to watch but you won't here anything without AC3 on. Some FTA channels (such as Tech TV and PBS) do not have an MPEG audio feed and require AC3 capability. Otherwise, its like watching TV with the MUTE button stuck on.

Great analogy for big dish owners.
4DTV DVB
I would like to point out, the reason this is, most C-band LNB's require 18 VDC to operate correctly (unless you have a C-band LNBf that need 14 or 18 VDC).

There is one exception to the above. If you only run C-band you can use the if out from the fta unit to the C-band reciever. C-BAND ONLY! Run the lnb in to the if in on the fta box, Then if out on fta box to the c-band in on C-band reciever. Antenna settings are Standard...L.O. Frequency is 5150. These settings are for the states in general. Stare at the lnb if needed to identify it. This is only for C-band!!! If running a C/Ku setup, Follow Ginyodas advice or you will be replacing equipment! However C-band side can be hooked up this way.
