Motorized help please

I am looking for suggestions on what equipment that I should get to get into a motorized dish setup. I have been reading and looking around. Basically it is just confusing me. I have an Ultra that I want to set this up on. I sure do need some guidance. Oh, the more economical the better
Thanks,
BigBee

If you look at most fta sites, you will find a combo-pack that usually includes a 30+" dish, a motor, and an invacom quad lnb. This is a great setup for you. The dish must be at least 30 inches and lnb must be a universal circular and linear lnb for you to get everything out there. You could get just a linear lnb but then that box will never be able to see big boys, just true fta. Thats why i say to just look around for a good package price. You can usually come in well under 200 bucks for the whole shebang. If you go this route, make sure to decide if you are going to roof mount it or ground mount it, that way you can order the mount at the same time. When you get all the stuff home, just hollar for the whole step by step on how to set in up, I am BY FAR from an expert on motorized setups but I have setup a few. There is some simple tricks to make sure your setup goes as smoothly as possible. BG

as always great advise BG. just want to add this is a case where bigger is better.
i wouldn't go smaller than 36"(90cm).

very true, if you go with a larger dish you will get less rain fade and easier setup as well. 30 inch will work but 33 or 36 inch will give you superior results. And th4nak8r is another one you can call on for assistance in setting up your motor, he has one of his own and has helped alot of folks. Trust me, you won't go wrong with a motorized setup, just think about it, when (not if) but when we get the fixes you will be able to get all providers without a bunch of switches and dishes, if they launch a new bird, you will have it too without any modifications......lets see any other dish setup do that. Good luck bigbee and thanks for the advice th4nak8r. BG

I have a HP1725A scope that I bought for a project a while back that didn't work out so I might put it on fleabay and sell it then get me a motorizes setup. I just put up a tower on the back of my garage that I am thinking of hanging it from. Got about 5 feet above the garage roof and it is rigid as all get out. when I put it up I made sure it was straight. Within the bubble lines on the level anyway. Would this be a good place to put it????
HECK, if I get ride of all these dishes (got 4 of em up now ) maybe the neighbors will stop asking me is I work for NASA.
Thanks to you all for the offers of help, sure hope you don't regret offering.

I know the feeling, I have so many dishes on the roof, people think I am a spy or something, if this was the 1950's, they would probebly think I was a commie That spot would work fine, even if the pole is not perfectly level, the mast bracket can level your dish up for you, it just has to be solid. Make sure where ever you put it, you are comfortable standing behind it for a while, ie. on a ladder or scaffold. It will take some time to make all the adjustments. I saw a bunch of nice motor kits on ebay for 125 + shipping (33). Those should do the trick for you. Let us know when you get it bud.

OK...here is my first (of many) questions.
I am planning on using my VS Ultra with the motor. DO I need a motor that is controlled using USALS protocol or DiSEqC 1.2 protocol?
If I am reading the manual correctly then I think it will work with either protocol.
Thanks,
BigBee

your are correct. All motors for fta will work with all modern day fta stb's. If you go to ebay, and search "motorized dish" you will find a complete package with all you will need including a roof mount with legs that can be adapted for your tower with a little effort. This kit is selling for 125.00 + shipping. You will have maybe 150 into it. That is a good price, I may even get it for another motor setup. Don't worry about the questions BB, I am happy to help out a member, and every other member (the ones who read at least) can benefit from your questions. BG

Here we go......
I found this kit on fleabay. The guy said he would upgrade me to a 36 inch dish for the same money. It has the better LNB from what I can tell. Let me know if this jit would be worth 210 buck including shipping.

*
FS80P 31" Dish
*
QPH031: Invacom Quad (circular / Linear ) Ku 0.3 dB LNBF
*
Sadoun PowerTech DG280B HH Motor
*
Universal wall mount

Thanks ,
BigBee

if it is a 36" like you say, then nab it! (and let me know where you got it). Like the4nak8r said, bigger the better. With the 36, you should get it all. I have a few sats that with my 30", can have a low quality when poor weather is south of me, but its always enough though. Get it!
