Some channels on the temporary solution had to be removed in order to maintain stability until the new solution is ready. It may be better to have fewer channels with less freezing for now rather than too many and too much freezing... The files floating around ARE NOT and SHOULD NOT be used by anyone. They were for temporary testing by authorized persons only and not for public use. All of us understand it is taking a very long time for a more stable solution to be put into place. Your patience is wearing thin and it is known by the coders. It is their hope and yours that a more stable solution is in place very soon. Unfortunately, no time line can or will be given on the exact date of a new fix. Sonic view i - h - u - b is not going to come out as others like View sat folks saying this will be done on this day. Building and testing solutions take time. As always, we suggest in this hobby that you never tie yourself down to a single solution. Things with the i - h - u - b will improve, but if you cannot wait - no one is telling you to do so. The coders will not be rushed into releasing something that is not worthy of all their efforts thus far.

c/p

Team CWN3 has been working for the last four months on a solution to the latest problem. After that time testing has presented some challenges, and a stable solution has not been reached. The realistic approach indicates that a working solution could be reached in the next three months but nothing is guarantee. The working solution is expected to work on CW800 and CW4000 models. Recent changes in the N3 stream need to be researched. N3 does not use the same lineal encryption pattern found in N1 and N2, it uses an adaptable encryption pattern. Our research finds that N3 could use up to 64 encryption variations depending on what key is valid. Some encryption mechanisms are built in the N3 system, while others combine different encryption variations. The following the research limitations our team faces: 1) creating a mechanism that decrypts all encryption variations of the algorithm found on N3, 2) provide a software solution that is stable, current testing solution only works 15 minutes out of every 6 hours on average tested on CW800 and CW4000 models. Those aspects have contributed in the release of an I K S solution for the CW4000 model which will be released in early November. We have been testing the I K S solution for the last two months and it has not been compromised. Some additional updates need to be included on the software before is released, so be patient."

United States Attorney Karen P. Hewitt announced that Jung Kwak, 33, also known as “Mr. Viewsat,” of Oceanside, California, Phillip Allison, 35, also known as “thebroken,” and Robert Ward, 54, also known as “TDG” and as “thedssguy,” both of Seminole, Florida, have tendered pleas of guilty to conspiring to violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The three defendants were charged in a one-count indictment handed up by a federal grand jury sitting in San Diego on July 9, 2009.

In connection with their guilty pleas, the defendants admitted that beginning in or about March 2008, they determined to hire computer hackers to break the latest DISH Network encryption scheme, known as Nagra 3, so that the line of satellite receiver boxes sold by defendant Kwak would continue to have a market. According to the indictment, and in connection with their guilty pleas, the defendants admitted that Mr. Kwak owns and operates Viewtech, Inc., in Oceanside, California. Viewtech imports “free-to-air” or “FTA” satellite receiver boxes and sells them to the public through a network of retailers under the brand name “Viewsat.” According to the indictment, there is a limited amount of free programming available by satellite to owners of FTA receiver boxes, much of it consisting of ethnic and religious programming in numerous languages. Yet, millions of Viewsat FTA boxes have been sold to the public. The popularity of FTA boxes is due to the fact that they are designed to make it a simple process for a purchaser to obtain subscription-based satellite television, such as that offered by Echostar’s DISH Network, for free. DISH Network licenses copyrighted works from the copyright holders, encrypts the signal, and sells the right to view to DISH subscribers. Subscribers to DISH Network programming obtain from DISH a “smart card,” which is inserted into a DISH satellite receiver box. The smart card decrypts the programming that the subscriber is authorized to view. Over the years, DISH has changed its encryption algorithms and employed other countermeasures to attempt to defeat theft of its signal. To illegally decrypt the DISH signal, the FTA boxes must appear to have DISH smart cards. That is done by reverse-engineering DISH smart cards and creating computer code which, when downloaded to an appropriate FTA box, will emulate the existence of a smart card and trick the system. In the past, as DISH encryption and countermeasures were defeated, the code has been posted on the Internet and made available for download to anyone.

In the late fall of 2007, DISH announced that it had created a new encryption scheme and would start shipping new smart cards to its customers. As the new encryption scheme was deployed, owners of FTA boxes would no longer be able to view DISH programming without a subscription, and sellers of FTA boxes would lose their market.

The defendants admitted in their plea that Mr. Kwak authorized Messrs. Allison and Ward to locate persons to work on cracking Nagra 3. Mr. Kwak agreed to provide funding and a substantial reward for success. Messrs. Allison and Ward admitted that they solicited a third party to join the scheme. Mr. Allison admitted purchasing a specialized microscope to be used in dissecting and analyzing smart cards for the third party and was reimbursed by Mr. Kwak. Mr. Kwak admitted meeting with and paying $20,000 in cash to the third party for photographs of a dissected smart card purported to be a Nagra 3 card. Mr. Kwak also admitted that he offered a reward of $250,000 if the EPROM (eraseable programmable read-only memory) for the Nagra 3 card could be obtained.

The defendants tendered their guilty pleas before United States Magistrate Judge Anthony J. Battaglia, subject to final acceptance of the pleas by United States District Judge Janis L. Sammartino on January 22, 2010, at 9:00 a.m.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Cybersquad of Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Diego.
Reports are coming in that all of the SV receiver are down for last few days.
Opponents (competition) of SonicView are claiming this is due to the lawsuit against SonicView, they are forced to take down their server (I think it is very unlikely).

SonicView guys are claiming that they hired a new team to work with *** and services would be restored by Oct. 22 (they were struggling with *** in past) (I think this could be true because their server is still online but not transmitting the right data).

Next few days will tell the truth.

Freetech says sorry and... // 2009-10-20

DISH Gets Its Apology

Back in late August we reported a significant victory for the DISH Network and the DBS platform’s security provider, NagraStar, as the duo won a mega ($106 million total) judgment against “free-to-air” provider Freetech. Freetech, as you might recall, was snatching the DISH signal and redistributing it – at significant profit – via its receivers.

The U.S. District Court of Northern California didn’t think too much of that and slapped a $97 million judgment against Freetech, $3 million against each of its three top officers plus it barred the company from reopening operations anywhere in the world. But money doesn’t always drive the point home. DISH wanted an apology as well.

Says DISH lawyer in the case, Chad Hagan of the Houston law firm Hagan Noll & Boyle, LLC, DISH hopes that any other would-be pirates “will see this and it will be a reminder that DISH is out there and will come after people” who try to steal its signal.

So here is the official Freetech apology to DISH:

“Freetech, Inc., the South San Francisco based importer and distributor of the Coolsat line of Free-to-Air Satellite receivers announces that it will dissolve and cease operations as part of its agreement to resolve a lawsuit filed by DISH Network, ******** Technologies and NagraStar (collectively “DISH Network”).DISH Network filed suit against Freetech in December of 2007 asserting that Coolsat receivers were primarily designed and used for the piracy of DISH Network’s satellite television programming. Freetech acknowledges that Coolsat receivers were used for this purpose and apologizes for any harm caused to DISH Network. As part of the resolution of the lawsuit, the Court entered a consent judgment finding in favor of DISH Network, ******** and NagraStar in the aggregate amount of $106,000,000.00 and entering a permanent injunction against Freetech and its officers and certain employees.

Freetech has also agreed to cooperate with DISH Network in its current and future anti-piracy actions.”

I know that tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Please remember that VS used to release their files later in the evening (EST). There is no reason for multiple posts of "where is the new file". When and IF the file is release on the 22nd we will have it in the download section as well as some sort of announcement either in the current status section or this section.
Thanks for your help.

For a few months now (since the death of n2), I've been witnessing a transition on these forums from helpful posts to, well, attacking, unnecessary, and hijacking posts. This is your only warning that this action will no longer be tolerated, and actions will be taken because of this in the (very) near future.

N2news is all about helping people out, not about attacking individuals, derailing threads, hijacking them, or anything like that. While, understandably, some may be frustrated that you can't see TV as you want right now, this is no excuse for this kind of action, and the forum rules still apply!

A (quick) walkthrough on proper posting etiquette since it seems to be necessary:

If your post is not on topic, don't post it.
How do you determine if the post is on topic? Ask yourself this very simple question:

Quote:

Does my post answer what the original poster asked, or is my post relevant to the FIRST post of the thread?

If your post is going to divert discussion from the original post of the thread, don't post it.

If your post is just a "fluff" post (ie: it contains no real content), don't post it.

From this point onward, any post that is deemed by moderators to meet any of those criteria will be given an 'infraction'. Get enough 'infraction points' and you will be given a temporary pass to the "readers only" group, where you will be able to be able to contemplate your actions with the ability to read threads and download attachments only.

While I do realize this may be upsetting and frustrating to some, a good number of individuals are ruining what is a great site by hijacking and trolling in threads, which hasn't been acceptable since I came in over a year ago. If you DO see something like this, please, point it out to us by clicking on the report post icon () and we will take action if necessary.

Feel free to ask any relevant questions in this thread.

If you’re a D*sh Network customer and woke up this morning telling you that your Smart Card was not authorized you were not alone.

The Internet forums lit up this morning with many D*sh Network customers reporting that some of their receivers would not work and that they could not get through to D*sh Network customer support.

Some posters mentioned that they were disconnected by D*sh Networks phone system after being on hold for over 45 minutes. Others reported not being able to get through and getting fast busy signals.

Those who managed to get through to Dish Network CSR’s found that the CSR’s like the customers had no idea what was going on or when things would be fixed.

The Smart Card error message issue got to be so bad that D*sh Network actually turned off all the encryption for all of its channels including the pay per view and adult channels while the problem was sorted out and fixed. While D*sh Network customers themselves never saw any of the unscrambled channels on their receivers those with regular free to air satellite receivers we able to tune in to all the programming that D*sh offers.

But the free for all didn’t last long as D*sh was able to fix the issue and return its signals to a fully encrypted state.

It was also reported that customer accounts on D*sh Network’s website were also messed up showing false information such as strange balances, showing a customer was signed up for auto pay when they were not and even in a few cases the last 4 digits of the credit card on file displayed was not the customers credit card.

D*sh Network issued me the following statement this afternoon on the matter, ““A server failure at an uplink center overnight caused a temporary loss of programming being delivered to a small percentage of D*SH Network customers. The issue was resolved quickly and those customers affected had their programming restored by morning.”

Indeed from the looks of things it appears that almost everything has gotten back to normal for D*sh Network customer. The good thing about this was that it happened when most customers were sleeping or at work so not many folks noticed.

end C&P

This one's been a short while coming, but it is finally here.
Need to get in touch with the staff, but have previously not been able to? Now, you can. Just use our helpdesk forum.

All threads in this forum are viewable by the thread creator, and the staff only. While we discourage giving out private information, in this one forum it is sometimes necessary to do. Don't offer it unless it's asked for, of course.

This is a pretty reasonable and safe way to get ahold of staff. Please note that not all staff can answer and address everything, as some of us (me) have no clue wtf FTA is, most of us (me, many others) have NO access to the paypal login for this site, but we will try to provide every bit of assistance that we can!!!

If you lose the link, don't worry, I've modified the 'contact us' link @ the bottom of the page to go there as well.

Enjoy!

The Ariane 5 for Arianespace’s fifth mission of 2009 has moved to the launch pad at Europe’s Spaceport, readying it for tomorrow’s liftoff with the Amazonas 2 and COMSATBw-1 satellite payloads.
Today’s Ariane 5 transfer from its Final Assembly Building to the ELA-3 launch zone starts the final countdown leading to a departure scheduled at the start of a 1 hr., 11 min. launch window that opens at 6:59 p.m. local time in French Guiana.
Arianespace is keeping up the mission pace, with a total of seven flights planned during 2009 – the busiest year of launch activity for Ariane 5 since its commercial introduction in 1999.
The total lift performance for this upcoming launch is 9,087 kg., which includes 7,905 kg. for the Amazonas 2 and COMSATBw-1 satellites, along with the mass of Ariane 5’s SYLDA dual-payload dispenser and the associated integration hardware.
Riding as the upper payload in Ariane 5’s payload “stack,” Amazonas 2 will be released at 27 minutes into the flight. The satellite weighs approximately 5,500-kg. and will provide a wide range of telecommunications services over its coverage area extending from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.
Amazonas 2 will be operated from an orbital slot of 61 deg. West, and is to be used by the Spanish-based HISPASAT telecommunications operator for relay capacity over the Americas with its 54 Ku-band transponders and 10 C-Band transponders. Based on EADS Astrium’s Eurostar E3000 spacecraft bus, the satellite has a design lifetime of 15 years, with an end-of-life power of 15.3 kW.
COMSATBw-1 has a liftoff mass of about 2,500 kg., and will be deployed from Ariane 5’s lower passenger position at just over 33 minutes into the flight. To be operated from an orbital position of 63 deg. East, this satellite will be a key element in the German Bundeswehr’s (German Armed Forces) concept for network-centric operations.
The spacecraft is to serve as the backbone of a strategic command infrastructure and interface for the Bundeswehr’s tactical arms, handling secure information – including voice, fax, data, video and multimedia applications – for use by units on deployed missions. It carries four SHF-band transponders and five UHF-band transponders, with a coverage area extending from America to eastern Asia.
Astrium is prime contractor for the German military telecommunications system’s space segment, which will comprise two satellites to be launched by Arianespace. Integration of both relay spacecraft is the responsibility of Thales Alenia Space, with the satellites based on the Spacebus platform. The payloads are provided by Astrium subsidiary TESAT.
The October 1 Ariane 5 launch will mark the 191st mission of an Ariane vehicle since the launcher family began operations in 1979.
