1918 Spiro Agnew, who served as vice president under Richard Nixon, is born. He dies in 1996.
1934 Scientist-author Carl Sagan (Cosmos; known for saying "billions and billions") is born. He dies in 1996.
1941 Guitarist Tom Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival; John Fogerty's brother) is born. He dies in 1990.
1960 John F. Kennedy defeats Richard M. Nixon to become president of the United States.
1961 Brian Epstein sees the Beatles perform for the first time, at a lunchtime show at The Cavern Club in Liverpool.
1963 "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen is released.
1966 John Lennon meets Yoko Ono for the first time at London's Indica Art Gallery, where an exhibition of her work is on display.
1966 Beatles conspiracy theorists say that this is the day Paul McCartney died.
