How to setup STATIC IP for your Captain D o n g l e

How to setup STATIC IP for your Captain D o n g l e For those users that don't have a router with DHCP or simply don't want to use DHCP, here's what you need to do in order to setup Static IP on your Captain D o n g l e. Once you've followed the instructions on how to get your Captain receiver ready for your Captain D o n g l e , perform the following steps:

Step #1 - Information Gathering - Find out what your local network settings are. You will need to know which IP Address is available, your Subnet Mask, your Gateway Address and your DNS addresses (typically there should be 2 of these). Most Internet providers usually send out an information package which will help you out with the DNS addresses.
As to finding out an available IP address, the easiest way to find out is to go to your computer ... go to a DOS prompt (under Windows you can press the START BUTTON -> RUN -> {type in CMD}). At the DOS prompt type in IPCONFIG /ALL. This will list what your computer's IP settings are. A Typical IP ADDRESS will look like the following:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . 192.168.0.5
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers. . . . . . . . . 45.225.30.183, 45.225.30.184

Step #2 - Choosing your Captain D o n g l e's IP address. Using the above example, you can now pick the IP address for your Captain D o n g l e. Here you can pick any number from 2 - 254 (with the exception of any IP addresses that may already be taken by the computers in your location. For our example I'm going to add 50 to the above address and therefore our IP Address for our Captain D o n g l e will be:

CAPTAIN D O N G L E IP Address . . . . . . . . . . 192.168.0.55

Step #3 - Getting to the Network Settings Screen. Once you have your Captain D o n g l e connected and turned on along with your Captain receiver get to the Advanced Settings Screen under Network. Press MENU -> SYSTEM -> NETWORK SETUP -> SETTING

Step #4 - Inputting the IP information into the Captain D o n g l e. - Change Setting from DHCP to STATIC IP {press the right arrow to do so} - Arrow down to IP address and press right arrow to start inputting your chosen
CAPTAIN D O N G L E IP ADDRESS {use the # keys 0-9 to key in address}. Press down arrow to save and move to next field.

- Input the Subnet Mask (ie. 255.255.255.0)
- Input the Gateway Address (ie. 192.168.0.1)
- Input DNS1 and DNS2 addresses

Once you have inputed all necessary addresses and you have verified that they are correct, press EXIT. This will get you back to the Network Setup Screen.

Step #5 - Save Changes and Reboot. From the Network Setup Screen, press EXIT once more and you should see a NOTICE Window popup giving you the option "Wish to save all the changes you've made? Yes or No". Ensure that YES is highlighted and hit OK. The Captain Receiver will now save and reboot.

Step #6 - Confirm that your settings work and that you get access to Weather Information. Once your Captain receiver has rebooted, go back to the Network Settings Menu, and confirm that STATIC IP is still enabled. If you see DHCP in it's place, that indicates that your Captain d o n g l e is not able to talk to your network properly. (ie. You might have a bad patch cable) If you see your settings still there and the Status = CONNECTED, exit out (no need to Save changes), and check to see if you can view Weather Information
